Initial Floral Illustration (+ special bonus)

I tried an illustration today!

I have been seeing lettering inspired illustrations everywhere online since quarantine. Combining floral/botanical illustration with letters is an easy and beautiful way of creating a personalized artwork. It's fun, it's simple and it's easy to customize.

Let me take you through the uncomplicated process of designing this illustration:

Sketching the outlines - This step is very important as it helps figure out spacing, placing and size of objects. No matter how experienced an artist is, this step definitely helps.

Figuring out the colour palette using my Staedtler brush pens.

Protecting areas from smudging - I put some washi tape on the area I am not currently working on - so that it doesn't get dirty while working on the other areas and to ensure I get straight clean edges.

Took out the washi tape and got perfectly clean edges! Painted some abstract loose flowers and added some depth by using darker colours.

Added little details like tiny leaves, and strokes with a white gel pen on the flowers for highlights. Painted the letter 'I' using black.
